Experimental Dater Nineteen – The Rock Chick

When the Rock Chick first contacted me about writing for the blog, she was worried she wouldn’t be needed as we  ‘already had a lesbian Experimental Dater’ (in the form of The New Realist), however the whole point of the Experimental Daters is to showcase a number of different perspectives on dating. and just because the Rock Chick and New Realist are both gay does’t mean they share the same views on dating.  Have a read of the Rock Chick’s profile, and I’m sure you’ll see the differences!

Blog Name – The Rock Chick

Twitter Account – @RockChick30Ds

Age – 27

Relationship Status – Single, for 10 months

Location – Switzerland

Sexuality – Female, at the gay end of the spectrum

Religion – Atheist

Height – 5’8 to 5’9”

Body Type – I just took an online quiz: apparently I’m between an ectomorph and an endomorph. Answers on a postcard if you know what that means…

Job – Post-doctoral researcher in Earth Science

Education – PhD

Hobbies – Sports (currently football, tennis, previously cricket, badminton, hockey). Mountains (hiking, skiing). Reading the Guardian (Weekly, since I moved abroad). Dancing to Daft Punk. Pretzels, Beer (and Wine), and Coffee. Learning German. Travel.

Ideal Partner – My main requirement is that they are outgoing/an extrovert (i.e. my opposite or perhaps complement). Someone spontaneous, to urge me out of my comfort zone. Also that they make me laugh, and laugh at me. It takes a while to coax me from my shell, so they’ll need patience. Someone who likes the outdoors. Partners from recent history have all been on the short side, though perhaps that is a natural consequence of being a tall-ish lesbian for the last 10 years…

Longest Relationship – 2.5 years

Why do you think you’re single? – Because I recently (OK, not that recent, but it can still feel that way) came out of a long-ish relationship. Unconsciously at first, but increasing consciously, I have been learning to appreciate my own and my friends’ company, and to have fun. It’s going well. I am also pretty good at being independent – I’m an only child…

Good Relationship Traits – I’m compassionate, thoughtful. I can cook. I am sensitive.

Bad Relationship Traits – I plan too much, I can be passive aggressive when my own high standards aren’t met. I am too sensitive.

How would you describe the way you date? – I don’t. Much. Or should I say, I didn’t…

What do you find most attractive in a date? – Self-confidence. Wit. A cheeky smile. A slice of the “alternative”.

What do you find least attractive in a date? – Arrogance. Pessimism.

Best Ever Date – A Masked Ball with a new partner. It was magical.

Worst Ever Date – I do remember once sitting in an empty (except for us) Italian restaurant at 6pm on Valentine’s night, with four waiters hovering around, and nothing to say…

Celebrity Crushes – Jessie J, Romola Garai, Julia Roberts, Sue Perkins
