London Date Idea – Pennethorne’s Cafe Bar

Somerset House

Last week I headed to Pennethorne’s Café at Somerset House, for drinks with some of the London dating industry’s brightest stars. Caroline Brealey is the nation’s top matchmaker – as crowned by both the UK Dating Awards, and the international iDate Awards. Katy Horwood is the multi-award winning blogger behind All Sweetness and Life, and Saskia Nelson is the UK’s only dating profile photo specialist – the lovely lady behind the photos of me plucking petals from roses in Battersea Park last summer.

Pennethorne’s is a café tucked away in Somerset House, though calling it a café rather undersells it. What it really is, is a sleek, quiet bar, a stone’s through from the busy London South Bank.

Somerset House has always been somewhere I’d recommend for a date – whether you’re viewing one of the many art exhibits throughout the year, skating on the ice rink in winter, or laying out under the stars, watching a movie in Summer. But this was the first time I’ve ever gone there for dinner and drinks, and I was really impressed.

The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, but the bar had a high end feel, which worked well for girly drinks, and would have been equally well suited to a first date. We picked at meat and cheese platters, and a variety of small dishes from the bar menu, and were surprised by how quickly the evening ran away with us.
